Jörg G. Bucherer, head of watch retailer Bucherer, passes away aged 87 on Monday 6th November 2023 in Lucerne, Switzerland.

The history of Bucherer began in 1888, when merchant and entrepreneur Carl-Friedrich Bucherer opened the first specialist watch and jewellery store in Lucerne together with his wife, Luise.

The business was passed to Jörg G. Bucherer in 1977. Since then, the business has undergone successful international expansion, solidifying its global presence.

Throughout Jörg G. Bucherer's leadership, the business acquired the Kurz Group in 1989, Swiss Lion AG in 2001, The Watch Gallery in 2017 and American luxury watch retailer Tourneau, with 28 stores across the US, in 2018.
In the absence of direct descendants for the company, Jörg G. Bucherer decided to sell the company to its most important partner, Rolex.
Jörg G. Bucherer leaves a legacy of excellence with Bucherer currently being the leading and biggest watch and jewellery retailer in Europe.
